‘Tense moment for Los Angeles’: Nine News reporter shot by rubber bullet during LA riots

Sofie Formica

A Nine News reporter who was shot by a rubber bullet live on television says protestors are angry as they fight against what they call the targeting of migrants in their city.

The video appears to depict an officer deliberately aiming at US correspondent Lauren Tomasi before shooting her in the back of the lower leg.

She says she was off to the side with her back towards the officers.

“We were on the ground and we got caught up on it  … We just got out of there, we’re not here to get involved, I just want to share what’s happening in Los Angeles,” she told Sofie Formica.

“I hope that we can bring you the accurate reporting because it is just quite an extraordinary scene,” she added.

She also says California Governor Gavin Newsom has called for the National Guard to back off, just days after US President Donald Trump deployed 2000 personnel to the area.

“The sense is that until these federal agents move out of Los Angeles, it just seems like this isn’t going to cool off,” she said.
