Suzuki, the small car company, axes its most popular model, the Baleno hatch

David Berthon

Suzuki has long been known as the small car company, highly successful at the bottom end of the market and in a year when a lot of car companies are in negative growth Suzuki sales are running 20.6 per cent up on the same time last year. However, it has just axed its best-selling model, the Indian-built Baleno hatch which has accounted for nearly 39 percent of its sales this year.

This despite a facelifted model having just been launched in other markets.

However, Suzuki Australia believes this new model designed specifically for the Asian markets would not meet the standard necessary for a new model here in 2023. As such it will concentrate on its popular Japanese-sourced small hatch the Swift which kicks off in manual form from $20,490. Suzuki’s sole model now under $20,000 the light Ignis SUV starting from $19,490.
