‘Special moments’: Make-A-Wish CEO on the process behind granting the wishes of critically ill young Australians

Bill McDonald

The Make-A-Wish foundation has granted the wishes of over 400 critically ill young Australians in the last 12 months, with more than 40 sports-related wishes granted.

Make-A-Wish Australia CEO Sally Bateman says they focus on creating special moments for children, with sporting teams providing a lot of support.

“The amazing support we get, not only from the clubs but their sponsors as well,” she told Bill McDonald.

“We try to involve the brothers and sisters, people who are important to the family, because so many of these kids, they’re in hospital, they’re separated from their siblings, and they just don’t have that opportunity to create those normal childhood moments,” she added.
