Social media expert says banning teens is not the answer, highlights challenges for regulation and enforcement
Conversations are stirring as new laws banning children under 16 from using social media come into effect on December 10th.
An expert in social media, Dr Susan Grantham from Griffith University told Ben Davis on 4BC Mornings “It’s a part of our life, it’s not going away, and if we don’t train the kids on how to use it and how to navigate this, then we’re failing them.”
“They need to be armed with the tools that they need to say, ‘I don’t like what you’re saying to me online, and I’m going to turn you off.’ It becomes a part of like society’s commitment to youth, the parenting by society.” Susan continued.
