Shadow immigration minister reveals his plans for new role

The Coalition’s newest shadow minister for immigration says there’s room for reflection as he comes to grips with his new portfolio.

Senator Paul Scarr says he’ll talk to previous coalition ministers who held the position to determine what should be done to address the “current state of play”.

“We have to work out what our national interests are … and decisions need to be made in the national interest,” he told Gary Hardgrave.

“I think where we need to move [to] is a longer-term vision in terms of the nation-building nature of our migration program,” he added.
