Senator Hanson – Native title claim leaves iconic Redlands sites in legal limbo

Clinton Maynard

Luke is joined for her regular chat by Pauline Hanson, Senator for Queensland / Leader of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, about the extraordinary native title claim from Redlands in Brisbane featured on Sky News on the weekend.

Local MP Henry Pike recently addressed the Federation Chamber in Canberra, highlighting that approximately 3,500 Council-owned or managed properties, including iconic sites like Wellington Point Reserve, Cleveland Point Reserve, the Redlands Performing Arts Centre, and local playgrounds, are subject to a native title claim.

Redland City Council seeks clarity from the Federal Court to determine if native title has been extinguished on these sites, a costly and lengthy process that could cost millions and take years.

Mr Pike expressed regret that the Albanese Government abolished the Native Title Respondent Funding Scheme, which had traditionally supported both claimants and respondents.

He wrote to the Attorney General earlier this year, seeking funding restoration for Redland City Council, but received no response, reflecting government inaction on pressing issues.
