Peugeot’s limited edition 308 GT hot hatch – a very individual car for the enthusiast driver.
French carmaker Peugeot has a history of producing exemplary hot hatches and its latest effort is the 308 GT – taking the performance mantle from the superseded 308 GTi. Launched late last year and limited to just 140 units the 308GT arrived with a very sharp starting price of $39,990 – an attractive and roomy five-door hatch that impressed from the moment I sat behind the wheel – a very sculptured and ergonomic interior and a car that purveys a premium feel both inside and out. To go with the sharp price Peugeot Australia has spec’d up the GT with a lot of equipment – on top of that is one of the first vehicles on sale with a petrol particulate filter producing welcome low emissions.
The engine – a 1.6-litre 165kW turbo four, not the potent 200kW engine that adorned the GTi but nevertheless its no slouch linked to an new eight-speed automatic with manual shift paddles – the auto super smooth makes this performance hatch a cracker to drive – Eco and Sports mode are available – the white instrumentation in Eco turn red when in Sports mode, the steering sharpens up as the does the throttle response. This is a limited edition hot hatch that on a winding road brings out the best in your driving style – if you like your car to be individual, sporty and fun to drive the Peugeot 308GT delivers in spades.
