Peugeot – a little history, sold here since 1908 and the only Lion brand now in Australia.

With the Holden brand no longer there is only one Lion brand now in Australia – Peugeot, long using the iconic Lion symbol and in fact last Tuesday Peugeot was 210 years old – the French company starting in 1810 as ironmongers, producing tools, coffee grinders, pepper mills, umbrella spikes and corsetry, then bicycles, Armand Peugeot moving to automobiles in 1889 – today, one of our oldest car companies with several Peugeot family members on the board. On Tuesday I previewed their latest small 2008 SUV before it goes on sale in January and I’ll be reviewing it in my segments tomorrow. Two variants, the Allure and GT Sport with 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engines. Talking of Peugeot history, the estate of Melbourne Peugeot collector Gordon Miller recently saw an extraordinary amount of memorabilia go under the hammer – tools, key rings, badges and no less than 47 period coffee grinders.
