Palaszczuk government backflips on youth crime reform

Phil O'Neil

Luke is joined by Laura Gerber MP, LNP Member for Currumbin / Shadow Assistant Minister for Youth & Justice & former barrister, about the Palaszczuk government being forced into a major backflip on the state’s youth justice strategy and will reintroduce breach of bail as an offence for juveniles as the government prepares to unveil a more than $330 million package to address the crisis.

Despite the state government’s relevant ministers previously ridiculing the policy as “a joke”, “laughable” and “unworkable”, the bail laws will be reintroduced this week in Queensland.

Ms Gerber wants the government to remove the shackles from magistrates as well allowing detention to be an option at sentencing – and makes the case for that with Luke.
