NAPLAN results explained

Bill Woods

Bill Woods is joined by Professor Jihyun Lee, Professor of Educational Assessment and Measurement in the School of Education University of NSW (with expertise in NAPLAN and other large-scale national assessment) to discuss the NAPLAN results.

Experts describe the latest NAPLAN test results as a “mixed bag” that show no overall decline in learning although reporting dips in spelling and reading in year 9 boys where 13.5 per cent didn’t achieve the National Minimum Standard for reading.

NAPLAN test results provide information on how students are performing in literacy and numeracy with results giving schools and systems the ability to measure their students’ achievements against national minimum standards and student performance in other states and territories.
