MG’s impressive first quarter with sales up 581 percent

MG as a brand has a rich history in Australia – the British sports car brand was founded in 1924 – the letters derived from the name Morris Garages, that company’s General Manager Cecil Kimber finding a niche market for modified Morris cars that were faster and a little more sporty.
Of course the brand has come full circle today – MG now part of the giant Chinese Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. In Australia, MG Motor can now lay claim to be the fastest growing automotive company this year – sales in the first quarter up a healthy 581 percent. Last year MG in Australia outsold Peugeot, Jaguar, Fiat and Alfa Romeo. The MG 6 sedan is old technology, the small MG 3 hatch now available in automatic, a competitive small hatch, while the small MGZS SUV is their highlight model. The impressive 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo MGZS Essence automatic the big seller and the model that has driven MG Australia’s recent success. I’m David Berthon.
