MG was the fastest growing car brand in the first quarter of this year on the back of the popularity of its small SUV – the MGZS , more specifically the Essence model – this small 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder six-speed automatic offers so much for $26,990 drive-away – a price lift over last year however still outstanding value for money – loaded with features like a rear view camera, emergency brake assist, faux leather trim that looks and feels real, rear parking sensors, a panoramic glass sunroof plus the usual cruise control, six airbags and alloy wheels. As a driver the 1.0-litre three-cylinder is a gem, frugal and I managed 7.1L/100 on the city/country cycle. If you’re looking for a small SUV the MG Essence is one of the value buys on the market. I’m David Berthon
