MG revamps its MG3 hatchbacks

David Berthon

MG as a brand has little presence in Australia but one of its models the ZS SUV in the higher Essence grade is one of the car industry’s best kept secrets. MG is now starting to gain traction as a brand with 21 dealerships across the country. As I’ve said previously Chinese automotive product is getting better at a rapid rate – the MG ZS SUV is a small SUV that frankly is so well equipped at $25,490 drive-away its up there with many in its class. This ZS Essence grade is a good looking small SUV, the body, fit and finish and overall quality hard to fault plus it’s absolutely loaded with features. Last week, MG Australia revamped its small 1.5-litre five-door hatch – the MG3 now only as a four-speed automatic– a 1.5-litre Core from $15,990 drive-away, the better equipped Excite from $17,490 drive-away – sharp value but the proof will be in the driving and I look forward to that. Both now get a 7-year unlimited kilometres warranty, some styling enhancements and a lot more specification. The entry MG Core 1.5-litre auto five-door hatch now gets LED daytime running lights and taillights, 15-inch alloy wheels, dusk-sensing headlights, rear fog lights, power windows and rear view mirrors, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control and tyre pressure monitoring . Inside an 8-inch colour touch screen, Apple car play, a leather trimmed flat-bottomed steering wheel, and Bluetooth. Only a three star crash safety rating but all the usual safety gear is included.
