Mercedes Benz to invest heavily in petrol power powered models

In a move that seems contrary to many other manufacturers Mercedes-Benz is reportedly reducing its electric car development plans and developing a new breed of petrol-powered models. According to a German publication Wirtschaftswoche the company plans on spending AU$22.6 billion on internal combustion engine cars, and as previously announced, will be dropping plans for a new large electric car platform – a move that would save the German company up to $AU9.6 billion. The change brought on by a slowing of the electric car markets in U.S. and Europe especially at the luxury end of the market. The company said to have a renewed focus on plug-in hybrids – it’s latest C63 AMG combining a heavily boosted 2.0-litre engine and an electric motor to produce 500kW of power yet using far less fuel than the previous twin-turbo V8 generation I’m David Berthon
