Long-term trend towards electric vehicles continues to solidify.

Deloitte’s Global Automotive Consumer Study of 21 countries including Australia recently found that electric vehicles may continue to have a tough time to become accepted here. The survey found that 70 per cent of Australians expect their next vehicle to be petrol or diesel, while 18 per cent said they would buy a hybrid electric, but only 4 per cent said they would buy an electric vehicle. However, the survey did find that the long-term trend towards EV’s continues to solidify but consumer anxiety amid the pandemic may have shifted automotive priorities towards familiarity and affordability.

Deloittes found that the cost/price premium for an EV affected the decision of 28 per cent of respondents while a lack of charging infrastructure was indicated by 22 per cent of people surveyed as being their greatest concern. However, they believe future strict future carbon emission regulations will mean the motor vehicle torch is slowly being passed from internal combustion to electric.
