A tiny chip could help address labour shortages within the horticulture sector by remotely detecting ripening fruit.

Scientists have been using an artificial crystal to make the tech which generates and manipulates electro-magnetic waves across the full spectrum of light.

Rural editor Sophie Clarke caught up with RMIT University’s Professor Arnan Mitchell to hear more about the chip technology and its potential use.
