Large 4WD’s in demand despite a soft new vehicle market

David Berthon

With our wings clipped for interstate and International travel for the foreseeable future we’re being told that now is the perfect time to see more of our great country by road. Perhaps the reason why demand for heavy off-road 4WD’s remains strong despite the 20 per cent dip year-to-date in the new vehicle market. Our two upper large 4WD’s under $100,000 – the diesel-powered Toyota Landcruiser and petrol-powered Nissan Patrol both in strong demand – the Landcruiser achieving 990 sales last month, up 3.1 per cent on September last year,  the less popular Patrol with 190 sales, up 86 percent on the same month last year. Both vehicles suit our wide open spaces with diesel power the LandCruiser’s trump card over the petrol Patrol.  It seems local tourism is in for a big lift this Xmas holidays and into next year with camp sites in huge demand and caravan and camping sales running at very high levels.
