Labour shortages threaten strawberry production

It seems like strawberries are never far from the news headlines. This week, of course, many thousands of strawberries will go uneaten because the Ekka has been cancelled, and its famous strawberry ice-cream stores will be shut.

At the same time, the strawberry industry is facing another threat — the inability to get farm labour to pick the fruit for our consumption. If you fancy a go at it, there are some powerful incentives to do so.

Adrian Schultz is the president of the Queensland Strawberry Growers Association, and he’s with me now.
