La Niña summer to see mosquito surge

Phil O'Neil

Dr Brendan Trewin, Research Scientist at CSIRO specialising in mosquito spatial ecology, statistical modelling and genetics explains to Michael the latest in mosquito research and offers advice on managing mosquitoes in and around the home.

Dr Trewin cautions Australians to be more careful this summer as a surge in mosquito numbers is anticipated during La Niña climate conditions which will see increased risk of mosquito bites and sometimes the spread of diseases like Ross River fever and Murray Valley encephalitis.
