Kia’s 1.6L Seltos GT-Line SUV – Now more powerful with new 8 speed automatic

david berthon

Driving Kia’s upgraded small Seltos SUV which arrived in December. Four
models in the range S, the Sport, Sport Plus and GT Line, the two higher grades
in all wheel drive gain a new more powerful 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder and a new
eight speed torque convertor automatic, while front drive grades retain the 2.0-
litre naturally aspirated engine and CVT continuously variable automatic. I drove
the 1.6-litre turbo eight speed auto Seltos GT-Line at $47,690 drive-away, with
more features, more drive assist technology, and a welcome new digital dash. So
how does it drive – this is a great all-round small SUV, it needs to be as it has
some strong new competition. The Seltos drive experience rewarding apart from
Kia’s Intelligent Speed Limit Assist which assesses the speed limit and sends an
audible warning every time you marginally overstep the limit – its overkill and
annoyingly needs to be turned off every time you start the car and it needs three
movements on the touchscreen to do so. Apart from that the Seltos is a nice
driver with an excellent locally tuned suspension and good economy – three drive
modes Eco, Normal and Sport – in Eco mode I managed 7.1 L/100 on 91 RON
petrol. I’m David Berthon
