Jaguar F-Type Coupe – now with supercharged V8 power in a three-model range
Talking Jaguar today – the Jaguar F-Type sports car, the spiritual successor to the legendary E-Type, built between 1961 and 1974, a car that today is one of the collector icons around the world, stunningly styled even by today’s standards. The F-Type first introduced in 2013 a worthy successor – classically styled it was upgraded for 2021 while for 2022 the four-cylinder and V6 supercharged engines were dropped in favour of a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 powered range.
Three models – P450 rear drive Coupe and Convertible and a more potent all-wheel-drive R Coupe flagship. All models sharing an eight-speed automatic. I tested the rear drive P450 Coupe with 331KW of power, 580Nm of torque priced at $166,048 in standard form.
On first impression this two-door two-seater has knockout styling that’s sporty and torsionally rigid but is tight in interior room. In some ways the interior is not as standout as the exterior and today feels a little dated.
However, its feels bullet proof and extremely strong as a driver and is no lightweight tipping the scales at 1706 kilos. There is no substitute for a potent V8 and the Jaguar F-Type P450 Coupe has a docile nature but when prodded hard enough becomes a very hard-nosed performer with a number of configurable and adaptive dynamics totally transforming its on-road behaviour.
I’m David Berthon.
