Hyundai’s new Ioniq five-door hatch

From Hyundai this week, a small to medium five door fastback the Ioniq with three electrified powertrains – the Korean brand firing a very strong shot at becoming a force in affordable low
emission vehicles. The Hyundai Ioniq electric Elite at $44,990 becomes the most affordable new electric car on the market, expected to make up half of the Ioniq trio’s sales. The other two models
are plug –in hybrids – the Ioniq Hybrid Elite the most affordable at $33,990 and the Ioniq plug-in Elite at $40,990 – these use a combination a 1.6-lite petrol engine and different size electric motors and batteries. Hyundai has spent five years with 200 personnel to develop the electrified trio and each offers a differing degree of electric performance. The full electric Elite offers a 360 volt lithium-ion battery that powers an 88Kew electric motor driving the front wheels – range 230km of what Hyundai describe as real-world driving range. More after a test drive. I’m David Berthon
