Genesis mid-size GV70 SUV takes the challenge right up to the European competition
I spoke earlier about how Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, is now at such a level it will change the perceptions of welded on European car fanciers, especially the premium Genesis GV70 SUV I’m driving today. If you needed further proof, 102 journalists from 33 countries this week voted Luc Donckerwolke, Hyundai Motor Company’s Executive Vice President for Design and Chief Creative Officer as the World Car Person of the Year 2022.
His most recent involvement, the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia’s EV6 and the Genesis GV60. Today, I’m driving the flagship 3.5-litre V6 all-wheel drive GV70 at $83,276. The GV70 SUV a finalist for the World Luxury Car honour to be announced on April 13 at New York Auto Show.
Visually, the GV70 cuts more of a tailored line to the GV80, the grille not so bold but still distinctive. The drivability of this top line model is first class aided by a stack of driver assist technology and excellent road grip. Just so polished in all it does, superbly detailed in terms of materials and fit and finish – tasteful in a western sense with more character to the European competition.
There’s only one downside that’s badge presence – it may not have the badge cred of a Mercedes, BMW or Audi but its fast getting there. Drive one it will change your mind about Korean product.
I’m David Berthon.
