Talking about Genesis’s luxury GV80 SUV today, already their top selling model and deservedly so. The GV80 just so impressive. Four variants with three powertrains – 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol, 3.0-litre turbo diesel straight six and 3.5-litre twin turbo petrol V6 – all eight-speed automatic with three selectable drive modes  All come in all-wheel-drive as seven-seaters although the entry model also in rear drive as a five-seater.

I tested the 3-0-litre turbo diesel Genesis GV80 with optional luxury pack at $113,600 – the styling visually striking in a body superbly executed in terms of fit and finish with extraordinary torsional rigidity and impressive insulation from mechanical and road noise.

The cabin enhanced with natural wood trim just oozes quality. With nearly 600Nm of torque this new Genesis diesel is strong and very willing, and with nearly 600 kms of hard driving I managed 9.5L/100. Apart from a pitching, fidgety ride on a poor surface from its electronically damped suspension, whether in Comfort or Sport mode, there’s little to criticize although its lane keep assist technology can also be far too intrusive. Genesis warranty, 5-years/unlimited km, five years/75,000 km complimentary diesel service plus valet pick up within 70 k’s of the dealership.
