Experts say that Sydney’s growing toll road network world’s most extensive and expensive

Michael McLaren

It was revealed that Sydney has the most extensive & expensive urban toll road network in the world.

Governments ague that all these toll roads are a necessary evil because without tolls they couldn’t afford to build them in the first place.

Michael is joined by Dr Michelle Zeibots, research director of the UTS Transport Research Centre who wrote yesterday that “tollways aren’t successful at reducing road congestion”.

“The reason why governments continue to build them is that they are put under

enormous pressure by the tollway industry and individuals sometimes within their

own party, who I would suggest are there to see tollway businesses make a lot of

money.

“But that is at the expense of the general community and the local businesses of

Sydney.

Dr Zeibots explains that what Sydney needs is more public transport.
