Economists urge federal government to be ‘careful’ regarding potential increase to retirement age

Economists are urging the government to be careful with how it implements any future increases to the retirement age.

Economist Stephen Koukoulas says some employees, like those in construction, won’t be healthy enough to work past the current retirement age of 67.

“We’ve got to be careful to ensure that people who don’t actually have the physical capacity to extend their retirement age are looked after,” he said.
