DonateLife Week calling for life-savers

26th July to 2nd August is DonateLife Week, a Commonwealth national awareness week initiative to promote organ and tissue donation which can be a life changing gift. =

Currently 16000 Australians currently waiting for a life- saving transplant and a further 12,000 people are on dialysis. Donations could be hearts, lungs, or even corneas.

Sydney Adventist Hospital’s Dr Emily Granger, who in addition to her work as a cardiothoracic surgeon at the San Hospital, has been part of the heart transplant surgical team at St Vincent’s and was among the pioneers of the ‘Heart in a Box’ surgery.

Dr Granger knows only too well the amazing impact that donating hearts can have on the life of the recipient but also the families and friends of the donor – helping their grief as they realise the legacy their loved one has left behind, and she joins John Stanley to discuss how many of us have the power to save a life.
