Demand for new cars high but supply hampered while prices are on the rise
VFACTS car sales data for June shows car makers globally are unable to keep up with demand with impacts from COVID-19, the war in Ukraine, the shortage in microprocessors and shipping issues all contributing to a lack of supply.
June sales nationally were down 9.7 per cent on the same month last year. Electric car demand is strong – the new Volvo built Polestar our best-selling electric car in June with 201 sales followed by the Tesla 3 with 172 although Tesla deliveries were hampered by a Covid-19 factory closure in China during March.
