Crime File: The Jury’s still out on Sir Joh

There are people in Australia who still believe that arguably the two greatest myths ever perpetrated on the Australian public are true.

The first falsehood is that Lindy Chamberlain murdered her baby daughter Azaria at Eyre’s Rock in 1980. The second myth is that former Queensland premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen was bone honest.

Firstly Lindy Chamberlain was pardoned and compensated for her years behind bars for the greatest miscarriage of justice in our history. In 2012 a coroner conceded that it was definitely a dingo that brought about the death of baby Azaria. Death by Dingo.

Sir Joh? Now that’s a different story. Although it was painfully obvious that there was something terribly wrong in Queensland while he was in power, he was never convicted of anything and I guess you could say the jury’s still out.
