If you think that complicated courtroom divorces are restricted to the litigious times we live in right now, then think again. At the beginning of last century Australia was treated to a court divorce case that became famous all around the world. It had the lot … and then some.

A dashing Australian Test cricketing hero, his beautiful aristocratic English wife, adultery, blackmail and the unlikely main participant who was an Irish Catholic priest who was in line to become the next Cardinal of Sydney’s St Mary’s Cathedral. They’d have trouble topping that lot, even these days.

It became known worldwide as the Coningham Conspiracy and is one of the most famous divorce cases in our legal history.
