One area of the car market that has shown real buoyancy since the pandemic is classic cars and auction houses around the world are gaining record prices for collectables. It seems that with travel limited many enthusiasts have turned to buying the classic they’ve always coveted. In Australia, Shannon’s report strong interest across their on-line auctions. Just this week Gray’s Online auctions reported a record price for a Holden road car – a 1985 Holden Commodore V8 belonging to the late racing legend Peter Brock. Build number 005 of just 500 built the HDT VK Commodore Group A was Peter’s personal car and had travelled just 78,000 kilometres. The final sum – $1,057,509 not including the additional 7.5 per cent auction fee – fell just short of the current auction record for an Australian-made road car, $1.15 million for a 1971 Ford Falcon GTHO Phase III set in February this year.
