Citroen C4 Grand Picasso is a great four-wheel-drive alternative

David Berthon

Every now and again you come across a vehicle that ticks all the boxes – I’ve always liked French cars and I recently tested the new petrol-powered Citroen C4 Picasso 7-seat people mover – with 1.6-litre 121kW turbo-petrol and six-speed automatic a great family carrier – second row seats are individual and have great fore-aft adjustment while third row seats are individual and fold flat providing generous load space. If you like SUV’s but don’t need four-wheel-drive this is a great alternative –loaded with comfort, driving and convenience features – only minus compared to the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel is the omission of autonomous emergency braking. Ride with a full compliment of passengers is simply first class and while it lacks the diesel model’s low down torque it’s still a nice performer. The test car was fitted with $5,000 optional Nappa leather seat trim, the front seats heated with a massage function plus an electric footrest for the front passenger – comfort an absolute high point. For some reason the importer seems to have lost interest in Citroen and the brand has suffered in recent years from lack of promotion and marketing – it deserves better for whilst its models are different, for some even quirky, they are for the best part misunderstood. Drive the C4 Grand Picasso and I’m sure you’ll come away impressed with its feel, features and inclusions and value for money. And if you’re worried about backup the warranty on this model is 5 years/unlimited with similar road side assist. I’m David Berthon
