Car sales fall in September for 18th. Consecutive month – Holden records its lowest sales in its 71 year history

 Official V-Facts car sales figures out this week for September posted the 18th consecutive months that sales have fallen – in fact the car industry is suffering its biggest slowdown since the 2009 global financial crisis – last month market leader Toyota suffered a 12.8 per cent sales drop on Sept last year, Honda was down 24.8 per cent, Volkswagen slid 18.7 per cent and Ford by 5.9 per cent. Holden also recorded the lowest sales in its 71 year history – 38 percent below September last year. Only car companies to post a rise over the same month last year – Mitsubishi up 18 per cent, Mazda 15.5 per cent and Kia a more modest 2.5 percent. Utes made up the top three selling vehicles last month headed by the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and new Mitsubishi Triton – Hyundai’s i30 came in fourth, followed by Mitsubishi’s very popular small ASX SUV..
