Car prices set to rise due to increased transport logistics and production costs

David Berthon

I spoke last week of the increased cost in running the family car what with rising petrol prices and maintenance and now it seems car prices generally are set to rise.

Already announced are price hikes on certain models for Haval, Kia, Skoda, Mazda and Hyundai with more expected to follow. Mazda has cited production costs and currency fluctuations as the reason a high proportion of its models rose in January – its popular and recently face-lifted CX-5 SUV rising by up to $1,300.

Chinese brand MG also blamed the cost of raw materials and rising transport logistics for rises this week of between $500 and $1000 on its popular small MG3 hatch and compact MGZS and ZST SUV’s.

MG enjoyed strong growth last year of 155 percent over 2021 but has already mooted it will be lifting prices by up to $2,000 when fresh stocks of its Model Year 22 portfolio arrive in April.
