Bugs and seeds could well be delaying delivery of your new car

A friend recently imported a vintage car and was surprised that it took six weeks once landed to be steam cleaned underneath, despite the fact it had been steam cleaned at its point of exit in the U.K. We forget that Australia has one of the toughest bio security regimes in the world and rightly so. And its reflecting on new car imports. Many vehicle manufacturers are holding cars in paddocks and fields where they become contaminated while awaiting the next available vessel. According to the Federal Department of Agriculture there was an 88 percent increase from 2021 to 2022 of vehicles arriving with what it calls Biosecurity Risk Material contamination. Materials including soil, plants, seeds, and live insects that are a high risk to our agriculture. So, if your new car is currently delayed this could very well be the reason. I’m David Berthon
