BP to shut its W.A. refinery

Michael McLaren

Michael is joined by John Blackburn AO, Air Vice-Marshal (Ret’d) / Chairman of the Institute for Integrated Economic Research – Australia, regarding British energy giant BP’s announcement this week that it will permanently shut down one of Australia’s last remaining oil refineries.

The Kwinana Refinery, located on the shore of Cockburn Sound at Kwinana, near Fremantle W.A., is Australia’s largest refinery with a capacity of 150,000 barrels of oil per day.

BP’s move will trigger hundreds of job losses and increase Australia’s reliance on imported fuel prompting union calls for urgent government intervention.
