Bird flu spreads in Victoria

Properties impacted by an outbreak of bird flu are being depopulated, and deep cleaned in an effort to control the spread of the virus.

Two strains of the avian influenza have been identified on separate properties across Victoria.

Up to 500,000 birds have been destroyed as part of control protocols.

It’s the first time there’s been an outbreak of this nature in Australia since 2013 in New South Wales.

More information about the outbreak can be found on the Agriculture Victoria website, or by following this link: https://bit.ly/31HjaAK

Rural editor Eddie Summerfield spoke with Victoria’s Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Graeme Cooke.
