Big improvements to Jeep Compass Limited

David Berthon

A drive in the new Jeep Compass Limited – a small SUV that frankly in the previous model was very average. The latest model was a total surprise – revamped with good looks, similar to the larger Cherokee and Grand Cherokee but above all else providing a really nice driving experience. The small SUV segment has 24 players so this revamped Jeep Compass has some strong competition. Jeep has a strong brand image but its presence here was poorly managed for some time and it’s only now getting the attention it deserves – poor quality was an issue and poor warranty support, now very much improved by new management. I drove the 2.4- litre petrol nine-speed automatic Jeep Compass Limited – the driving experience top class apart from the fact it’s no fuel miser, part of the reason the need to push the engine a little hard due to a lack of strong punch. This aside all other aspect of this small Jeep SUV really appealed. Far better in quality, very easy to drive and really sharp in steering response, handing and braking. Base price on the Compass Limited $41,250 however a dual panel sunroof, black roof paint and a driver-aid pack took the price to $46,740. This pack comprised forward collision alert, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, auto high beam, rear cross traffic alert and an auto tailgate, most of which frankly should be standard. The Jeep Compass Limited is a vastly improved model now backed by a five-year/100,000km warranty and lifetime roadside assist. I’m David Berthon
