Barry Humphries remembered by his friend of 60 years

Phil O'Neil

Luke is joined by Ross Fitzgerald, Emeritus Professor of History and Politics at Griffith University & author/co-author of 44 books, about the life of his friend of 60 years, Aussie icon Barry Humphries, who passed away peacefully yesterday aged 89.

Humphries was best known for writing and playing his stage and television characters Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson, which introduced his absurdist humour to millions bringing him international renown.

He appeared in numerous stage productions, films and television shows, but it was his one-man satirical stage revues, which alternated satirical monologues and musical numbers laced with ad-libbing, improvisation and audience participation, which have endured for more than sixty years and will be remembered into the future.
