Back-to-back long weekends impact blood supply

Phil O'Neil

Phil chats with Jemma Falkenmire from Australian Red Cross Lifeblood about how the upcoming back-to-back Easter and ANZAC Day long weekends could impact blood supply.

With over a third of Australians planning to travel in April, Lifeblood is urging people to donate blood before or during their holidays to avoid a critical drop in supply. The rare overlap of Easter and ANZAC Day public holidays means many could take a 10-day break by using just three days of leave, making early donations even more important.

Blood donations save lives every day—just one can save up to three people. Fortunately, most Lifeblood donor centres will remain open over the long weekends, including public holidays, offering plenty of chances to give.

As a bonus, donors between 14 April and 25 May will receive a limited-edition Easter-themed bandage designed by Melbourne artist Alice Oehr.

To donate, visit lifeblood.com.au, call 13 14 95, or use the Donate Blood App.
