An unlikely alliance team up to build zero emission flying cars

David Berthon

Rolls-Royce and Hyundai are forming an unlikely alliance to revolutionise zero-emission flying cars.

The new collaboration will introduce electric and hydrogen fuel cell technology to all areas of the aviation business, from what is called the Advanced Air Mobility market with a range of vertical take-off and landing vehicles, through to Urban Air mobility where small automated aircraft carry passengers and freight at low altitude in suburban areas.

Hyundai has already delivered hydrogen fuel cell technology to the global automotive market, now exploring the feasibility of electric and hydrogen propulsion systems with Rolls-Royce aviation to achieve the global aviation industry’s goal to fly net zero carbon by 2050.

The concept of flying cars exciting indeed, once the feature of fiction movies but now very much a reality before the end of this century.
