America’s favourite pick-up, the Ford F-150, to return to Australian showrooms

David Berthon

After a 16-year absence Ford’s legendary F-150 pick-up is set to return to local showrooms. America’s favourite pick-up the F-150 returns mid-next year under a factory-backed agreement with Thailand-based engineering firm RMA, which will see it remanufactured from left to right hand drive at a new facility in Broadmeadows in Melbourne.

Ford Australia confirmed this week the F-150 will be sold in two grades and carry a five-year unlimited kilometre warranty alongside the rest of its range. Demand for the large American pick-up trucks, such as RAM and Chevrolet, has more than tripled here in recent years and Ford obviously wants a slice of this lucrative business.

The Aussie F-150’s will be offered exclusively with a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine Ford claiming it offers similar power and torque to the RAM and Chevrolet V8’s but with better fuel-efficiency.
