A COVID19 vaccine was almost created in 2016, what happened?
There’s a race to find a vaccine as COVID19 passes 100,000 cases.
Prominent US scientist, Dr Peter Hotez who appeared before a house committee in Washington DC recently, tells Luke Grant it’s a process that’s going to take time.
“The problem that we face is there’s still a big lag because the hard part is all the clinical testing to ensure the vaccine both works and is safe.”
Dr Hotez says claims that a vaccine will be ready in weeks are outrageous.
A vaccine that could have helped cross-protect against COVID19 wasn’t able to proceed due to lack of funding.
“The tragedy is, had we been able to track the funding back then, when we made it in 2016, we would have had this vaccine ready to go now.”
