2025 State Budget: Winners and Losers

The Crisafulli Government has handed down their first state budget, but not everyone will get what they want.
4BC Breakfast host Peter Fegan says the budget, which he calls sensible, has scrapped a lot of “sugar hits” initially brought in by the former Labor Government.
“There’s a reason David Janetzki and David Crisafulli have been very tight here with the purse strings,” he said.
Education
Parents will receive $100 for back-to-school boosters, which will help parents buy school essentials.
The government has also committed to building 15 new schools.
Gary Hardgrave has slammed the $100 boost, saying it’s not enough for families.
“Everything has gone up, $100 is better than a poke in the eye, but every family is doing it hard because of energy,” he said.
Police
As previously announced, the Queensland Police Force will be getting $147.9 million in new equipment, including new tasers, body worn cameras, tactical first aid kits and more.
$290.3 million has also been allocated to help upgrade and build new police stations, facilities.
Record health spend
The Crisafulli government has dedicated over $33 billion to build three new hospitals to help with demand, including the addition of 2600 new hospital beds, as they commit to a hospital rescue plan.
But nurses and midwives hoping for the government to come to the table have missed out.
Energy bills
It’s been known for a while that the first LNP government in 10 years wouldn’t be providing Queenslanders with any sugar hits, which means most Queenslanders, except for the most vulnerable, will see their energy bills going up from July 1st.
Gone is the $1000 rebate introduced by Labor last year.
“That was pretty smart move politically by the Labor Party. Let’s be brutally honest. They knew at their last budget, they were probably gone,” Peter Fegan said.
Debt
The state’s debt is forecasted to reach $205.7 billion by 2029, but the government will be spending more than it earns.
