2022 World Car of the Year Awards
The 2022 World Car of the Year awards announced last week saw Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 electric car take out the main gong – the first time in the 18-year history of the award that Hyundai has won the title. The South Korean car maker also took out two other categories – the innovative Ioniq 5 taking out Best Design and Best Electric Vehicle.
The World Car of the Year Awards were voted on by 102 judges from 33 countries. In taking the major award the Ioniq 5 outvoted the Kia EV6 electric car built by Hyundai’s sister brand Kia and Ford’s new electric Mustang, the Mach-E.
Toyota’s small Yaris Cross SUV took out the most affordable category the 2022 World Urban Car of the Year while Audi’s new electric sedan the E-Tron GT won World Performance Car of the Year with Mercedes-Benz first luxury electric saloon the EQS, voted World Luxury Car of the Year.
