Michael is joined by Robert Ketton, retired university academic & Downs Steam publicity officer, regarding their 20-year project restoring Steam Loco No. 106 which has seen the return of Toowoomba’s rail glory days.

No. 106 was written off the books on 28th May 1964, having clocked up 1.8 million km and was the last surviving steam locomotive built at the now closed Toowoomba Foundry.

Now completed after 20 years of hard work by volunteers and a large donation from one of the city’s wealthiest residents, loco 106 will be able to once again impart the pleasure of roaming the Darling Downs and the Granite Belt behind a majestic steam locomotive proudly built & restored in Toowoomba.
