Police are urgently appealing for the return of a platypus after two people were seen boarding a train with the animal on Tuesday.

The platypus was wrapped in a towel and shown to other commuters after the pair boarded a train travelling toward Caboolture at Morayfield Station.

Wildlife educator Mark Bender told Laurel, Gary & Mark there are fears it could die if it doesn’t receive help from a vet.

“Platypus, being a monotreme, they are quite sensitive animals,” he said.

“They live in and around the water and if that animal’s been taken away from water and those people aren’t thinking about their basic needs, … that animal might start feeling quite sick.”
