Peter Dutton has opened up on last year’s leadership spill following the release of a TV investigation into the affair.

In doing so, he’s taken a pot shot at Christopher Pyne and Malcolm Turnbull for their behaviour throughout.

It’s been revealed Mr Turnbull wanted the Governor General to prevent the Home Affairs Minister from taking the nation’s top job

In a heated confrontation, Attorney-General Christian Porter refused to go along with Mr Turnbull’s plan because it would be “wrong in law”.

The Home Affairs Minister tells Ray Hadley the A-G stood up to “inappropriate behaviour”.

“He really impressed me during that week because he didn’t take sides.

“He looked at what needed to be done as the Attorney-General of our country and he saw inappropriate behaviour taking place.

“He called it out, he stood up to it and you’re right, it was a gutsy move and I think he deserves full credit for it.”

Mr Dutton tells Ray the series was “largely factual” and also had a crack at Christopher Pyne’s unwavering support for Malcolm Turnbull.

“Christopher Pyne believed that Malcolm could win as well.

“I remember a great story about Christopher in 95′ I think it was when he told John Howard he was washed up, yesterday’s man, and he was going nowhere.

“John Howard went on to a bit of success in 96′ and was prime minister for 13 years so, there are some people’s political judgement who I wouldn’t trust.”

Details of the spill have been revealed in Sky News’ two-part series Bad Blood New Blood
