Peter Dutton: Nationals MP Andrew Broad has ‘done the honourable thing’

Article image for Peter Dutton: Nationals MP Andrew Broad has ‘done the honourable thing’

Less than two hours after his boss urged him to “consider his future”, Nationals MP Andrew Broad announced he’ll quit at the next election.

On Monday, bombshell revelations emerged that Mr Broad used a “sugar daddy” website to meet a younger woman while on a part taxpayer-funded trip to Hong Kong.

The married Nationals MP resigned from the Morrison ministry and agreed to repay any costs.

But this latest scandal has rattled the party, prompting Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack to urge Mr Broad to consider his future.

In a statement soon after, Mr Broad announced he won’t be recontesting his Victorian seat of Mallee at the next election.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton tells Luke Grant it’s right Mr Broad steps aside.

“I think he has made the right decision.

“He clearly made a very significant error of judgment and he’s now done the honourable thing by his family and by his party and by the people of his electorate and most people would welcome that announcement.”
