One Nation leader Pauline Hanson is defending her decision to travel overseas with her family, despite her party’s Longman candidate facing serious accusations back home.

The dual citizenship fiasco is forcing voters back to the polls in five seats across the country this weekend, with the Queensland seat of Longman hanging in the balance.

One Nation’s candidate Matthew Stephen is hitting the campaign trail without his leader, as Senator Hanson has “private time” overseas.

Mr Stephen is fighting for votes while fending off accusations he owes thousands of dollars to sub-contractors from his former tiling business.

Liberal Senator Jim Molan says Ms Hanson should have her boots on the ground.

“It’s got nothing to do with private life or family,” he tells Chris Smith.

“This is a classic leadership situation and Pauline should be there. At the moment, I think her candidate there needs her very very much because he’s being slammed by a bunch of facts that may or may not be true.

“We forfeit all the private life that we’ve ever had when we come into this job. The country pays us an amount of money and we should be where the fight is.”

Senator Molan has also weighed in on the accusations facing Mr Stephen.

“Not paying subbies is unforgivable, if it occurred.”
